Science of Fragrance Award
As part of its alliance with the Association for Chemosensory Sciences (AChemS), SOSI initiated its sponsorship of theScience of Fragrance Award in 2006 in conjunction with the annual AChemS meeting which is held in Sarasota, FL in April of each year. The Science of Fragrance Award recognizes an outstanding oral or poster presentation on research that has a clear relevancy and potential for application to the creation and/or marketing of fragrance products. The award was created to bridge the gap between the scientific community that specializes in olfactory research and the fragrance industry.
Science of Fragrance Honorees
2006
Australian researchers, John Prescott, PhD and Jenelle Wilkie, PhD, received the first Science of Fragrance Award in recognition of their investigation into the effect of odors on pain tolerance that showed sweet smelling odors have an analgesic effect. SOSI Scientific Affairs Director, Craig Warren, PhD noted, “The work of Prescott and Wilkie is significant for the fragrance industry because a majority of commercial fragrances contain sweet smelling aroma chemicals such as the vanilla scents of vanillin and ethyl vanillin and musks that have a sweet powdery scent.”
