11th Annual National Sense of Smell Day

What is National Sense of Smell Day?
National Sense of Smell Day is an annual springtime event at children’s museums and science centers across the country. The Sense of Smell Institute sponsors the event, which consists of each museum hosting a day of activities focused on the sense of smell, how it works and the important role it plays in many aspects of our daily life. In addition, schools, the media and retailers are encouraged to join in the fun by featuring their own special events.

Participating museums feature hands-on, interactive activities including demonstrations of how the sense of smell functions in humans and animals, the connection between our senses of taste and smell, how the sense of smell alerts us to danger, enhances our alertness, helps us to sleep, improves our mood and much more. There are also many creative craft activities and entertainment in the form of puppet shows, storytelling, musicians and contests.
